HISTORY OF AMAI VANITHA COMMITTEE

Globally the presence of ladies in the medical fraternity has been increasing steadily. In Ayurveda, the rise has been phenomenal with lady doctors comprising more than 80% of the output every year. Kerala’s scenario is also the same. AMAI, as always took initiative to understand and address the career possibilities and constraints of the lady doctors in Kerala about the present job opportunities available and the future prospects.
On the 6th of December 2009, at the Ayurveda Medical Association of India Kollam District Committee meeting, professional challenges and chances of lady Ayurveda doctors were discussed and the committee decided to form a Vanitha committee with the purpose and objective to bring in more ladies into organizational activities, boost their confidence and start professional upskilling to explore newer areas of clinical practice and academic excellence. The decision was implemented immediately by convening a meeting of lady doctors of the district on the 7th of January 2010, at Jaladarsini Auditorium, Kollam. Organizational leaders who attended the meeting were Dr. Raghunath AMAI Kollam District Committee President, Dr. Rejith Anand AMAI Kollam District Committee Secretary, and Dr. Mohan AMAI North Zone Secretary. A new Vanitha wing of the AMAI Kollam District Committee was formed with Dr. LK Shailaja as Chairperson and Dr. Mini MR as the Convenor. Thus, the first milestone to enhance the prospects and careers of Ayurveda lady doctors was laid and the stage was set rolling for more participation and representation of lady doctors in AMAI activities and leadership. The very first Vanitha convention was held at Hotel Highland, Kottarakkara on the 2nd of May 2010. State-level AMAI leaders attended the meeting. AMAI State President, Dr. Salim, General Secretary, Dr. Udayakumar, AMAI Kollam District Committee President, Dr. Raghunath, Secretary Dr. Rejith Anand, North Zone Secretary, and Dr. Mohan were the noteworthy among them. Kottarakkara MLA, Ms. Aisha Potty officially declared the formation of district-level and area-level Vanitha Sub-committees

State Vanitha Sub-committee

In succession and furtherance to the 13th AMAI Annual State Conference held on the 7th of March 2010, at Ayurveda Bhavan, Angamaly, State Vanitha Sub-committee was formed with Dr. Sheela D as Chairperson and Dr. PK Lathika as Convenor. Subsequently, Vanitha Sub-committees were formed in all 14 districts and Vanitha conventions were also conducted correspondingly. The Vanitha conventions held at Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, and Kannur were significant for their participation and activities. The process ushered in a revolutionary change all over the state. More and more lady doctors were actively involved in organizational activities and rose as promising leaders. AMAI state committee decided to change the nomenclature and status of Vanitha Sub-committee into Vanitha Committee at the 15th AMAI Annual State conference held at Beach Orchid, Kollam on the 10th and 11th of January 2015, during the leadership of AMAI President, Dr. Vinod Kumar and General Secretary, Dr. Rejith Anand. These moves assured gender equality and laid more responsibility on Vanita Committee. Dr. Savithri KK as Chairperson, Dr. Usha K Puthumana as Convenor, Dr. CD. Leena, and Dr. Valsaladevi. K as Vice Chairpersons, Dr. Priya Devdutt, and Dr. Asmabi MA as Joint Convenors formed the core group to take the activities of the AMAI State Vanita Committee ahead. “Women’s Health through Ayurveda ” was the motto of the Vanitha Committee for that whole year. Vanitha Clinic Training and Implementation Project led by Dr. Susan M Jacob was awarded the AMAI Best Project Award for the year, which indeed was a shot in the arm for a more expansive and productive turning point for the Vanitha Committee

വർഷം തോറും ആയുർവേദ ബിരുദം പഠിച്ചിറങ്ങുന്ന വനിതാ ഡോക്ടർമാരുടെ എണ്ണം കൂടി വരികയും അതോടൊപ്പം വനിതാ ഡോക്ടർമാരുടെ പ്രാ ധിനിത്യം സംഘടനയുടെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിൽ കൂടുതൽ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നതിനും വേണ്ടി ആയുർവേ മെഡിക്കൽ അസോസിയേഷൻ ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യ 06/12/2009 തിൽ കൂടിയ കൊല്ലം ജില്ലാ കമ്മിറ്റിയുടെ യോഗത്തിൽ സംഘടനയുടെ സ്ത്രീ വിഭാഗം തുടങ്ങണമെന്നും അതിലേക്കു ലേഡീ ഡോക്ടർമാരുടെ ഒരു യോഗം വിളിച്ചു ഒരു ചെയർ പേഴ്സനെയും ഒരു കൺവീനറേയും തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ മുന്നോട്ട് കൊണ്ടുപോകുവാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു. അതിൻ പ്രകാരം 07/01/2010 വ്യാഴാഴ്ച 2.30 pm നു കൊല്ലം ജലദർശിനി ഓഡിറ്റോറിയത്തിൽ വച്ചു കൊല്ലം ജില്ലാ പ്രസിഡണ്ട്‌ Dr രഘുനാഥന്റെയും സെക്രട്ടറി Dr. മോഹനന്റെയും ഉത്തരമേഖല സെക്രട്ടറി Dr രജിത് ആനന്ദിന്റെയും നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ വനിതാ വിഭാഗം രൂപീകരിച്ചു. Dr. L K ഷൈലജ ചെയർ പേഴ്സൺ ആയും Dr. മിനി M R കൺവീനർ ആയും തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു.സംഘടന പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിൽ വനിതാ ഡോക്ടർമാർക്ക് കൂടുതൽ പങ്കാളിത്വവും പ്രാതിനിധ്യവും ലഭിക്കുവാൻ ഇതിലൂടെ തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചു. 2-5-2010 ഇൽ കൊട്ടാരക്കര ഹൈലൻഡ് ഹോട്ടലിൽ വച്ചു ആദ്യത്തെ തന്നെ വനിതാ കൺവെൻഷൻ നടക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. ഈ മീറ്റിംഗിൽ AMAI സ്റ്റേറ്റ് പ്രസിഡന്റ്‌ Dr സലീമിന്റെയും ജനറൽ സെക്രട്ടറി Dr ഉദയ കുമാറിന്റെയും ജില്ലാ പ്രസിഡന്റ്‌ Dr രഘുനാഥന്റെയും Dr മോഹനന്റെയും Dr രജിത് ആനന്ദിന്റെയും കൊട്ടാരക്കര MLA ഐഷ പോറ്റി യുടെയും സാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ ഔദ്യോദികമായി എല്ലാ ഏരിയകളിലും വനിതാ സബ് കമ്മിറ്റി രൂപീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

സ്റ്റേറ്റ് വനിതാ സബ് കമ്മിറ്റി

13 ആം സംസ്ഥാന സമ്മേളനത്തിന് ശേഷം 2010 മാർച്ച്‌ 7 ന് അങ്കമാലി ആയുർവേദ ഭവനിൽ ചേർന്ന സംസ്ഥാന കമ്മിറ്റിയിൽ സ്റ്റേറ്റ് വനിതാ സബ് കമ്മിറ്റി രൂപീകരിച്ചു. Dr ഷീല D ചെയർ പേഴ്സൺ ആയും Dr. ലതിക പി കെ കൺവീനർ ആയും തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു.തുടർന്ന് എല്ലാ ജില്ലകളിലും വനിതാ സബ് കമ്മിറ്റികൾ ഉണ്ടാകുകയും വനിതാ കൺവെൻഷനുകളുംനടത്തി. കൊല്ലം, പത്തനംതിട്ട, ആലപ്പുഴ, കോഴിക്കോട്, കണ്ണൂർ ജില്ലകളിൽ നടത്തിയ വനിതാ കൺവെൻഷനുകൾ ഏറെ ശ്രദ്ധ ആകർഷിച്ചിരുന്നു. എല്ലാ ജില്ലകളിലെയും വനിതാ സബ് കമ്മിറ്റിയുടെ പ്രവർത്തന മികവ് കൊണ്ടു തന്നെ Dr വിനോദ് കുമാർ AMAI പ്രസിഡന്റും Dr. രജിത് ആനന്ദ് ജനറൽ സെക്രട്ടറിയും ആയിരുന്ന കാലയളവിൽ 2015 ജനുവരി 10,11 തീയതികളിൽ കൊല്ലത്തു ബീച്ച് ഓർക്കിഡിൽ വച്ചു നടന്ന 15 ആം സംസ്ഥാന സമ്മേളനത്തിൽ വനിതാ ഡോക്ടർമാർക്ക് തുല്യ പദവി ഉറപ്പാക്കി കൊണ്ടു വനിതാ സബ്കമ്മിറ്റിയിൽ നിന്നും വനിതാ കമ്മിറ്റി രൂപം കൊണ്ടു. Drസാവിത്രി ചെയർപേഴ്സൺ, Dr ഉഷാ k പുതുമന കൺവീനർ Dr CD ലീന, Dr Valsala ദേവി വൈസ് ചെയർ പേഴ്സൺമാരായും Dr പ്രിയ ദേവദത്ത്, Dr അസ്മാബി ജോയിന്റ് കൺവീനർ മാരായും തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു.’സ്ത്രീകളുടെ ആരോഗ്യം ആയുർവേദത്തിലൂടെ…’ അതായിരുന്നു ആ വർഷത്തെ സന്ദേശം.
ആ വർഷത്തെ best project award വനിതാ ക്ലിനിക് project ന് Dr സുസൻഎം ജേക്കബ് ന് ലഭിച്ചു. വനിതാ കമ്മിറ്റിക്ക് വളരെ മാറ്റങ്ങൾ ലഭിച്ച വർഷം ആയിരുന്നു അത്.

AMAI വനിതാ കമ്മിറ്റി – ലക്ഷ്യം

1. ആയുർവേദത്തിന്റെ അത്യന്തികമായ പുരോഗതി.
2. പൊതുസമൂഹത്തിൽ ആയുർവേദത്തിന്റെ സ്വീകാര്യത വർധിപ്പിക്കുക.
3. വനിതാ ഡോക്ടർമാർക്ക് ആയുർവേദ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ ചികിത്സ രംഗങ്ങളിൽ കൂടുതൽ സംഭാവനകൾ നൽകാൻ കഴിയും വിധം പ്രാപ്തരാക്കുക.
